Is it really about counting calories?...the weight of what goes in must come out? No it is about "Balance" total balance in your life routine (style). Each one of us have a different approach to living but one thing is the same it "shows" on the outside of us all and takes its toll on the in side as well. The "see saw" effect of life is every where and like dominos it is just a matter of time when the breaking point will be apparent in our health.

Free will of choice is the major factor in your life that can be controlled with good habits. What products we use, put on our bodies and in our mouths. We must set the facts out and look at what really matters in our style of living to get the balance
to live a healthy life. Now some damage has already been done to our systems and we have health issues that before starting on this journey of change should be consulted with your health professional before venturing any change.

We are here to inspire your change in your healthy style of living. Your attitude must be positive and realistic with your timed goals. It is like learning how to ride a bike, the first bump is shaky but then you realize it is mind over matter and riding becomes smooth. The same is with the changes you must make to over come bad habits in routine. With that same perspective you will accomplish your set goals for your new routine that will set your life on its way and with the perfect tools you will be on your way.....Geralyn

People who exercise regularly are generally more successful at losing weight and keeping it off than those who don't?

2. Increasing physical activity is good for you? And no, we're not saying that you should run out and join a health club or become a jogger. But a little physical activity every day can have huge benefits. In fact, according to a 1996 Surgeon General report, just moderate amounts of non-strenuous physical activity can produce big improvements in people's health and quality of life. Here you can read about easy ways to introduce physical activity into your life such as becoming a mall walker in the winter time, gardening and yard work during the season and many others. In addition you can get a copy of our "My Whole Body Fitbook" and find the help you need.

Your weight loss is directly influenced by the way you think and feel. The more you can remain positive and motivated, the more success you're likely to have. Here are three ways to stay focused on your success.

1. Form a support circle. This includes your family, friends, coworkers and your doctor.

2. Keep track of your progress. Weigh yourself periodically. And each day write down a day's complete eating and any physical activity you've done. The Whole Body Fitbook will help you do that.

3. Reward yourself early and often. Changing your lifestyle takes motivation, and although feeling better about yourself is the biggest reward of all, sometimes you might need a little something extra to motivate you..
I have long stood for a better life through healthy living. That includes weightloss, exercise, diet and supplementation where needed. For that reason I have tied together two websites that embody the spirit of that goal. The first site is http://www.eweightlossplus.com. While it sounds like a weight loss website it includes so much more. You wil find sections for a healthy lifestyle, a healthy home, healthy pets, recipes and a healthy diet and so very much more to attain and maintain the goal of weightloss and a healthy lifestyle. The second website is http://www.antioxidantsuperpills.com. We wish we could get all of the nutrition we need from our food. But there are many reasons why that is not always possible. We are too rushed and not enough time to prepare the necessary meals. Less nutrition in the foods we have available. Too many prepared foods and all the white stuff: white flour, white pasta, white bread, etc. And then there are all the fast food restaurants. For those reasons I have added a "Fountain of Youth" website containing mostly antioxidants. These are so important to our body, and so often are not available in sufficient quantity. I have added a few additional things that most of us are deficient in such as Vitamin D. Between these two websites you will find information, documentation and products that will help us live longer, healthier, more productive lives.

They were compared with subjects fed a low-fat diet, where
no more than ten per cent of their calories came from fat.

As expected, those on the high-fat diet got fatter. A more surprising
result was that their immune system was less active. The white blood
cells got worse at dealing with bacteria in the blood, which could have
contributed to many contracting infections.

"Obesity is usually associated with inflammation that does not result
from an infection, which simply means that the immune defenses are
activated unnecessarily," explained the researchers. "Ironically, the
subjects on the high-fat diet seem to have a less active immune
system when they really need it."

Fat people are at a greater risk of acquiring infection, for example in
connection with an operation. In a controlled-laboratory environment,
the study shows that it is fatty food rather than obesity in itself which
affects the ability to fight off sepsis caused by bacteria.

The researchers have also investigated different variants of three
genes that are important for the immune system and noted that
several of the gene variants that strengthen immunity also result
in less obesity.

"There are all kinds of links between the immune system on the
one hand and obesity and diet on the other," they concluded.

In 2003 an AASM task force of sleep experts examined the use
of medications to treat insomnia in children. A consensus meeting
summary was published in 2005 in the Journal of Clinical Sleep
Medicine. The task force emphasized that behavioral treatment
approaches to bedtime struggles and night waking in children
have a well-documented empirical basis and are the mainstay of
treatment, and that pharmacologic approaches should be largely
considered adjuncts in the treatment of pediatric insomnia.

The results are published in the new issue of the American Journal
of Clinical Nutrition.

"Our finding that cinnamon decreases the insulin demand, despite the lack
of change in blood glucose concentrations, was probably due to enhanced
glucose uptake via stimulation of the insulin receptor," reported the
researchers from Malmo University Hospital.

The study adds to a growing body of research reporting that active compounds
in cinnamon may improve parameters associated with diabetes. Indeed, the
same researchers reported in the same journal in 2007 that consumption of
300 g rice pudding plus 6 g cinnamon led to a decreased rate of gastric emptying.

Taking into account the earlier studies, higher doses of cinnamon are apparently
required to influence GER and postprandial blood glucose concentrations. The
researchers measured the rate of stomach emptying (gastric emptying rate) in
14 healthy subjects with normal fasting blood glucose levels after consuming
300 grams of rice pudding or 300 grams of rice pudding plus 6 grams of cinnamon.

The Scandinavian researchers recruited 15 health subjects (nine men) with an
average age of 24.6, an average BMI of 22.5 kg/m2, and with no history of diabetes, and assigned them to randomly consume 300 grams of rice pudding with zero, one or three grams of cinnamon (Cinnamomum cassia) added. All of the participants consumed all the meals in a random order, with one week between each.

No significant effects on the rate of gastric emptying, levels of satiety, and blood
glucose levels were reported. However, the insulin response one and two hours
after the meal with three grams of the spice was significantly lower than levels after consuming the control meal.

Furthermore, the change in GLP-1 response was significantly higher after
ingestion of the pudding with three grams of cinnamon, compared to the
control meal, said the researchers.

"There seems to be a relation between the amount of cinnamon consumed,
the delay in gastric emptying, and the reduction in postprandial blood glucose
concentrations," wrote the researchers.

"The previously described reduction in postprandial blood glucose concentrations after the ingestion of six grams of cinnamon was much more noticeable than was the lowering of GER. Gastric emptying, as well as other factors, regulates the postprandial blood glucose response, and a delay in gastric emptying leads to a lower postprandial blood glucose concentration." they added.

The Scandinavian researchers make reference to the potential in diabetes, while
also acknowledging the meta-analysis results. "Clearly, a long-term clinical trial
involving a larger number of diabetes patients is needed to evaluate the effects
of cinnamon supplementation in type 2 diabetes," wrote the researchers.

Source: American Journal of Clinical Nutrition 2009, Volume 89, Pages 815-821

Researchers in Japan are reporting new evidence that the ordinary vinegar, a staple in oil-and-vinegar salad dressings, pickles, and other foods, may live up to its age-old reputation in folk medicine as a health promoter. They are reporting new evidence that vinegar can help prevent accumulation of body fat and weight gain.

Vinegar has also been used as a folk medicine since ancient times. People have used it for a range of ills. Modern scientific research now suggests that ACETIC ACID, the main component of vinegar, may help control blood pressure, blood sugar levels, and fat accumulation.

Their new study showed that laboratory mice fed a high-fat diet and given Acetic Acid developed significantly less body fat (up to 10 percent less) than other mice.

Most significantly, the new research adds evidence to the belief that Acetic Acid fights fat by turning on genes for fatty acid oxidation enzymes. The genes produce specific proteins involved in breaking down fats, thus suppressing body fat accumulation in the body.

Journal reference:
Acetic Acid Upregulates the Expression of Genes for Fatty Acid Oxidation Enzymes in Liver To Suppress Body Fat Accumulation.
Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2009;

When this receptor is stimulated, it causes our bodies to hang on to much more fat than they'd do otherwise.
According to the researchers involved in the study, "the data presented here support the hypothesis that overactivation of the kappa opioid receptors contribute to the development of obesity, especially during prolonged consumption of high-fat, calorically dense diets."
To make this discovery, the research team conducted tests in two groups of laboratory subjects. One group had the kappa opioid receptor genetically deactivated and the other group was normal. Both groups were given a high fat, high sucrose, energy dense diet for 16 weeks. While the control group gained significant weight and fat mass on this diet, those with the deactivated receptor remained lean. In addition to having reduced fat stores, those with the deactivated receptor also showed a reduced ability to store incoming nutrients.
Although more work is required, this research may help address the growing obesity problem worldwide in both the short-term and long-term. Most importantly, this research provides more proof that high-fat and high-sugar diets should be avoided.
We all want to look good, and the skin is one part of us we can’t hide. It is also the biggest organ we have, and keeping our skin in good shape is very important. The antioxidants can be very helpful when it comes to keeping our skin healthy and youthful. In addition, the skin produces and stores vitamin D, which is necessary for absorbing calcium. The skin is the organ that is most vulnerable to attacks from free radicals, for obvious reasons. It is constantly exposed to sunlight and pollutants such as cigarette smoke and ozone, which promotes the formation of free radicals. In fact, smokers often have prematurely aged skin, with wrinkles and lines equivalent to people ten years older. Because we often don’t protect our skin properly against pollutants and free radicals attacks, we are aging our skin faster than it has to and it becomes more prone to skin cancer. The most effective way to protect the skin is to use antioxidants actively, both in the form of supplements and by using skin creams rich in antioxidants. The skin is then doubly protected and the effects of the antioxidants are boosted and multiplied. Antioxidants can and should be used both on the inside and the outside to keep our skin healthy. Ideally, we should keep our skin cells bathed in antioxidants at all times. This is not as difficult as it may seem. A daily habit of taking antioxidant supplements and actively using skin creams will go along way toward this goal.

This favorite treat also helped correct other stress-related biochemical imbalances.

Researchers noted growing scientific evidence that antioxidants and other
beneficial substances in dark chocolate may reduce risk factors for heart disease
and other physical conditions. Studies also suggest that chocolate may ease
emotional stress. Until now, however, there was little evidence from research in
humans on exactly how chocolate offers the "stress-busting" effects.

In the study, scientists identified reductions in stress hormones and other stress-related
biochemical changes in volunteers who rated themselves as highly stressed and ate
dark chocolate for two weeks. "The study provides strong evidence that a daily consumption
of 40 grams [1.4 ounces] during a period of 2 weeks is sufficient to modify the metabolism of
healthy human volunteers," the scientists say.

Americans are getting fatter. In fact, more than 60 percent are overweight and 18 million have type 2 diabetes. It's an epidemic that's becoming more of a problem each year. Now, a new discovery could help people shed those dangerous pounds and live a healthier life.

Doctors explain it's carbs from breads, cereals and pastas that are making us fat, because the starches are broken down immediately into sugars. When starch breaks down into sugar, it stays in the bloodstream, but eventually stored as fat.

Scientists at the University of California, Los Angeles, examines the effect of white kidney bean extract (called Phase 2) on food and Glycemic Index (GI) levels. The research has resulted in the development of many new products for people on specific GI diets, including new "low carb" pasta and beneficial supplements. It could especially benefit patients with diabetes, who need to closely monitor and control blood sugar levels, as well as athletes and overweight people who want to shed excess pounds!.

The UCLA researchers found the white kidney bean extract helps the body stop carbs from breaking down into sugars .by reducing the amount of starches in the diet and the amount of carbohydrates, allowing the body to slowly start to burn off that stored energy. A digestive enzyme in the body normally acts like a knife, literally cutting starches into small sugars. Phase 2 stops the enzyme from cutting, so the starches stay in the body as long fibers and are burned off quicker, enabling easier weight loss and helping to keep blood sugar levels under control.

Doctors say patients in the clinical studies who took Phase 2 lost body fat, not lean muscle. The extract is not recommended for pregnant women or type one diabetics because their blood sugar could get too low. Mild nausea is the only known side effect.

ABOUT THE STUDY:

Previous clinical trials found that 1 gram of the Phase 2 kidney bean extract affects blood glucose levels, while the new study shows that 2-3 grams affect Glycemic Index levels. The extract has the ability to neutralize the digestive enzyme necessary for starch to turn into glucose. It slows the digestion of starches and sugars, which can cause a rapid rise in blood sugar after eating. A previous UCLA study found that Phase 2 reduced starch absorption by 66%.

THE GLYCEMIC INDEX:

Developed in the 1980s, the Glycemic Index (GI) ranks various foods according to how they affect blood sugar levels two to three hours after eating. Foods high in fat or protein don't raise levels very much, while certain carbohydrates are so easily broken down in intestine that blood sugar levels rise too quickly. The GI only tells you how rapidly a particular carbohydrate turns into glucose; it doesn't tell you how much of that carbohydrate is in a given serving of a particular food, or what percentage are 'available' carbohydrates, i.e., those that provide energy (starch and sugar, as opposed to fiber). You need to know both to fully understand how a given food affects blood sugar levels. The glycemic load (GL) measures the latter. A GI, if 70 or more is high; 56 to 59 is medium; and 55 or less is low. A GL of 20 or more is high; 11 to 19 is medium; and 10 or less is low.

HOW DIGESTION WORKS:

Food and drink must be changed into smaller molecules of nutrients to be absorbed into the blood and carried to cells throughout the body. It does this via the digestion process. Food is travels through the esophagus into the stomach, where it is dissolved and emptied into the small intestine. The digested nutrients are absorbed through the intestinal walls, while the rest is expelled as waste.

Although the FDA recognizes Phase 2 as a food supplement, doctors emphasize it isn't a miracle pill. Patients still need to carefully watch what they eat, maintaining a healthy low-fat, high-protein, fiber-rich diet and exercise regularly.
